What Are Custom Aliases?
A custom alias lets you choose the text that appears after your domain in a short link. Instead of a random code like lynkd.co/x7k2m, you get a readable URL like lynkd.co/spring-sale or lynkd.co/webinar.
Creating a Custom Alias
When creating or editing a link, enter your desired alias in the 'Custom Alias' field. Aliases must be unique across your account and can contain letters, numbers, and hyphens.
- 1Keep aliases short and descriptive (e.g., 'demo', 'pricing', 'q1-report').
- 2Use hyphens to separate words for readability (e.g., 'spring-sale' not 'springsale').
- 3Avoid special characters. Stick to lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens.
- 4If the alias is already taken, you will see an error message. Try a variation or add a distinguishing element.
Best Practices
Use consistent naming conventions across your team. For campaigns, consider a format like 'campaign-channel' (e.g., spring-twitter, spring-email). For evergreen links, use simple descriptive names (e.g., demo, pricing, careers).
Avoid using dates in aliases unless the link is truly time-bound. A link like 'march-promo' becomes confusing once April rolls around if the promotion is still active.
